If you choose not to believe in God, if you believe that you are free to believe, think and do whatever you choose or that you can pick and choose what you wish to believe and do from the pages of scripture - you are living and believing that which is contrary to the Word and divine will of God. See the links to the pages on atheism, the authority of scripture, the da Vinci code and other related links at the bottom of this page.
Heterosexuality is clearly mandated throughout the pages of the Bible. Marriage is an institution ordained by God between one man and one woman. If the marriage is one that is intended and led by God and the couple is seeking to be a husband and wife after the ordinances and commandments of God, they become one flesh - a supernatural bond created by God himself. Some say this is the restoration of Adam's rib - God put Adam to sleep, took a rib from his side and created a woman, Eve, to be a companion, helper and supporter. It is not good for man to be alone.
Genesis 2:20 - The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every animal of the field; but for man there was not found a helper suitable for him. The LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. He made the rib, which the LORD God had taken from the man, into a woman, and brought her to the man. The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She will be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh. They were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
Especially in the 20th and 21st centuries, there has been a rapid rise of rebellion against God in all areas of life and this is reflected in the emerging of so-called "alternative lifestyle choices."
". . . and your sin will find you out." - Numbers 23:32.
Make no mistake, sin is sin - that has not changed since Satan tempted Eve and she seduced Adam into sinning against God by eating from the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis, chapters 2 and 3.) After they disobeyed God, they lost their innocence, felt guilty, became aware that they were naked and clothed themselves with leaves. Just because men and women choose to go their own way doesn't mean that there are not consequences. God allows us free will to choose whether we will serve and obey Him or choose to serve and obey Satan, which is another way of saying that we are making our own self-centered choices rather than following the will and word of God.
There are those who were born into families where homosexuality, lesbianism, incest, group sex and other perverse and addictive sexual behaviors were present. Some of those people might grow up thinking that they were born a homosexual, a lesbian, a bisexual, a candidate for trans-sexual surgery or a transvestite. It was the environment that twisted their thinking and behavior, not the genes they were born with. When children are sexually abused at an early age or exposed to non-traditional behavior in the home from an early age, it may be difficult to see these events or behaviors as abnormal and to turn away from them to a healthy lifestyle.
In the ancient Hebrew scriptures, there were very strong penalties for some sins that were an abomination to God. These sins included those that attacked the traditional family structure and the foundational principles of the survival of the community and of society as a whole.
Here are the specific scriptures that speak about homosexual and lesbian behavior and lifestyles. The choice is either to obey God or to go our own way and face the judgment of God. There is no doubt where God stands on the issues. This is not hate speech - it is the word of God and it is our choice to obey it or to rebel against it. If we go against God, there are always consequences, even if those consequences are only that our lives are not as happy or meaningful as they might be. But, many times the consequences of going our own way can be much more difficult. By His example, Jesus taught us to love sinners but to hate sin. He forgave people who had sinned greatly and he healed and cleansed those who believed in Him - but, he always told to them to "go and sin no more."
Leviticus 18:22 - You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman. That is detestible. 24 Don't defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled.
God drove the pagan, heathen nations out of the land that the nation of Israel entered - a much larger area in the same location where the current nation of Israel is today. God drove them out because their pagan lifestyles were an abomination unto God and his judgment was on them as Israel warred against them and took over lands where they were living.
Leviticus 20:13 - If a man lies with a male, as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
This is a harsh punishment that was enforced in the ancient Hebrew nation. It shows just how much God hates the sin which is against the way He created man and woman. Jesus taught a different approach to sin that once brought the death penalty - John 8:3 The Sofrim (scribes) and the Perushim (Pharisees) brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the midst, they told him, "Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. Now in our law, Moshe commanded us to stone such. What then do you say about her?" They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Yeshua (Jesus) stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Yeshua was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle. Yeshua, standing up, saw her and said, "Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?" She said, "No one, Lord." Yeshua said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more."
Jesus taught us to show mercy, to forgive in love and to stop sinning. But, He had the power to transform people instantly, because He was God. Those he corrected, changed inwardly, recognizing their sin and turning from it. Although Jesus did not specifically refer to homosexual behavior, he grew up in the Jewish traditions and taught according to them.
Deuteronomy 22:5 - A woman shall not wear men's clothing, neither shall a man put on women's clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.
This verse has a clear message to transvestites or cross-dressers, trans-sexuals or homosexuals and lesbians who enjoy dressing up in clothing of the opposite sex.
In the New Testament we learn that Jesus came to teach about the Kingdom of God and to die on the cross as an atonement for our sins. We moved into the age of grace - a time for those to accept the saving grace of Jesus. Then, if we sin, we may choose to turn or repent from our sin and ask God to forgive us. He is faithful to do so if we truly turn away from sin and ask His forgiveness sincerely because of the shed blood of His son, Jesus. But, sin is still sin and carries an eternal penalty if we do not repent. And, even believers who repent may bear the consequences of sin in this life and see our place in the eternal Kingdom of God, and our eternal reward, affected by it. The wording of the Old Testament and New Testament verses on this subject are somewhat different because of the context, but the attitude of God toward sin is the same.
Romans 1:24 - Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonored among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amein. For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant-breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.
The gift of eternal life is freely given to those who trust in Jesus as their savior. Those who believe, pray, read the Bible and allow themselves to grow in spirit and truth by trusting in Jesus and in the guidance of the Holy Spirit are brought into the family of God and will spend eternity with Him.
