Where is the real Mount Sinai?

The actual site of Mt. Sinai is in question among many Biblical scholars, archaeologists and explorers. The person who determined where Mt. Sinai should be located on the map, in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, was Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor, Constantine. This immediately calls the matter into question, because Constantine founded the Roman Catholic religion which separated the teachings of Jesus from their Jewish roots, subtituted pagan sun worship (Sunday worship) for the Jewish Shabbat (Sabbath - from Friday at sundown until Saturday at sundown,) substituted Babylonian Easter worship for the Jewish Pesach (Passover - when Jesus was crucified) and added fertility cult idols (the mother and child symbol for Mary and Jesus which is straight from Egyptian and ancient world pagan goddess worship.) Unfortunately, when Protestant churches broke with the Roman church, most of them maintained Sunday worship and Easter instead of returning to the Jewish roots of the faith. There is a Catholic monastery at the Egyptian location of Mt. Sinai.

The actual location is clearly told here in the Torah (O.T.) -
Exodus 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
Exodus 3:12 - And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people OUT OF EGYPT, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

In Strong's Hebrew dictionary # 2717, Horeb is an English translation of charab khaw-rab' or chareb {khaw-rabe'}; a primitive root; to parch (through drought) i.e. (by analogy,) to desolate, destroy, kill:-- decay, (be) desolate, destroy(-er), (be) dry (up), slay, X surely, (lay, lie, make) waste. The word Horeb would later become a generic term for the mountains of the Sinai region.

Moses was to bring the children of Israel from Egypt to this same mountain in Midian, near Jethro's home, in a foreign land. Midian (meaning - a son of Abraham,) is in current day Saudi Arabia. Jethro lived near the town of Al Bad which is about 15 miles from Jebel el Lawz or Jabal al Lawz - the mountain of the Laws. That is what the local Arab people have called the mountain for centuries and they insist that this is the location. The obvious reason that the actual location is not the public location has to do with Saudi Arabia being an Islamic state that is very anti-Jew and anti-Christian. The Egyptian location is accessible to pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. The Saudi government has erected a fence around the Midian Sinai location to preserve and protect an archeological site - or is it closed to the public because the Saudis want to keep the truth hidden from the Jews, the Christians and the rest of the world? Would greed cause some to conspire to keep the location of Mt. Sinai on the Sinai Peninsula, which is a more accessible and imposing site, for the purpose of making money? Or would those who know keep it there because the real Mt. Sinai shows more evidence of what is written about it in the Bible? The true remnant of God's people would want the real site to be known and visited, would they not? And if it were in Saudi Arabia, the Saudis would oppose it and fence it off - as they have. Did Helena and Constantine have anything to do with choosing the site? After all, Helena is credited with identifying the location and the mapmakers have kept the location there ever since.

The site is guarded and surrounded by a fence, topped with barbed wire, and closed to the public. On separate expeditions, explorers Ron Wyatt and Bob Cornuke travelled there and photographed the actual site. According to them, the ruins of the pillars of the 12 tribes are there. Also found is the Rock which flowed forth water (another O.T. type, or foreshadowing, of Jesus Christ - the source from whom living water flows and the Rock of Ages, the cornerstone that the builders rejected - Jesus, the foundation stone of the faith and of the Church.) Erosion on the rock and in the path of the flow of the water is seen; the altar of the Golden calf is there - and the most astonishing site is the blackened top of the mountain due to the Holy fire of God - the very presence of God! The entire top of Jebel el Lawz is burned black. It is not a volcanic peak. The rocks on top of this mountain are granite rock and they have been melted! Some sample rocks were brought home and analyzed, found to be burned, melted and not made of obsidian or other dark lava rock. Wyatt's information was presented on PAX TV's Encounters with the Unexplained on November 9, 2001. Cornuke returned and released a video called In Search of the Real Mt. Sinai after which the Saudi government closed the site. None of this evidence is found at the Egyptian Sinai location, although it is a much more rugged mountainous area and perhaps more overwhelming to see while being more accessible to tourists. Some have suggested that this is the reason for the maintenance of the official site here - that it is more appealing to tourists and therefore more money can be made from the tourist trade. What the Egyptian Sinai location has in ruggedness and height is surpassed by the supernatural quality of the burned mountaintop, the lone tree (perhaps the burning bush,) the enormous cracked rock from which water poured when Moses struck it according to God's commandment, the idolatrous golden calf alter, the 12 pillars of the 12 tribes, Elijah's cave and all the other landmarks in the area that match the Biblical description. The most telling fact is that the Saudi government began to fence the entire area off from outsiders after Ron Wyatt began telling the local authorities about it.

In the New Testament, the mountain is mentioned in -

Galatians 4:22 For it is written that Avraham (Abraham) had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman. However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise. These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar. For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in `Arav (Arabia,) and answers to the Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children. But the Yerushalayim that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

Hagar is another spelling of Agar, the bondwoman servant of Abraham's wife Sarah.
